Islamist suspect in custody after Borussia Dortmund attack

A suspect with “Islamist links” is held in custody following a bomb attack on the bus of the Borussia Dortmund football team.

From the first information’s released in the public, the prosecutors also said one of the three explosives used in the attack contained metal strips.

There have been received two letters claiming responsibility for the attack which are being investigated.

According to the prosecutors the blasts are treated as a terror attack but the precise motive is still unclear.

A spokeswoman for Germany’s federal state prosecutor, stated the following: “Two suspects from the Islamist spectrum have become the focus of our investigation. Both of their apartments were searched, and one of the two has been detained.”

According to the spokesman, three letters containing the same text were found near the site of the blasts indicated that the attacker had links to so-called Islamic State.

In the letters there were requests as follows: “Among other things they demand the withdrawal of [German] tornado fighter jets from Syria and, I quote, the closure of Rammstein airbase.”
